Replika, also known as “My AI Friend,” was developed by Eugenia Kuyda as part of a very personal initiative to honour her buddy Roman Mazurenko, who passed away, by utilising his SMS messages.
The idea developed into a “private perceptual world” or personal AI friend that users could confess their feelings, memories, and innermost thoughts to. In order to increase user engagement, Replika is constantly improving its response processes and experimenting with different natural language models. Despite formerly using its own proprietary model, CakeChat, the company has switched to more advanced models, such as GPT-2 and GPT-3.
